let me remind you that I'm called to this generation and not to man, I do not do what I do with a volunteer mind set, even though through the eyes of the world it is volunteer work, I don't treat it as if it was an hourly or salary paid job, I don't do it because I was told to or asked to, I don't to it because I have to, I do it because I get to!
What's a Calling? a Calling is people, place and purpose. It's what you are passionate about, it's what you desire to see God do, it takes you beyond what you expect, it stretches you, molds you and teaches you. A calling from God is His assignment to you for your life.
We all don't receive the calling of God at the same time or at a specific age. God calls us at different times in different seasons at different places. You might not even know what your calling might be just yet and that's ok. Just ask Him.
How do I know when I receive the Calling of God? Well there's not a specific way of explaining it, but from my expreience, God will place a burden on your heart and will give you the passion for that place, group of people, city, country, whatever it might be, but a burden usually follows, along with passion and fire!
My calling is to this generation, to my youth group, to my pastors and my church and the ministries I serve under. I'm called period! I live and breath my calling...do I also live life outside my calling? YES of Course! I take vacations, I travel, I do stuff that is fun and exciting for myself...but I'm called to Ministry and ministry is where I'm at most of the time. WHY? because it was ministry and the calling of God that was on someone else's life that led me to Christ and brought freedom into my life!
So check yourself? Why do you do the things you do in your church or the ministry you serve under? is it based upon a calling? or upon a volunteer mentality. Are you burden by the calling or by the work? because I tell ya what, no matter what happens, no matter how much your ideas get turned down, no matter how many times you need to repeat yourself, the calling stays the same and you keep pushing forward until the vision comes to pass. It's about who and what your called to for Christ!
One last thing, Jesus lived out his calling, he was sent to earth to fulfill a purpose and a mission, He had a burden and a passion and he even sacrificed his own life so that he can see His kingdom come and fullfil the vision that our God had for us! Jesus could have quit and give up and return to heaven, he could have snaped his fingers and thousands of angels would have answered but he didnt because he had you in mind and needed to fulfil the calling that was upon His life. When you sign up to be apart of the Kingdom of God, its no longer about you but about His Kingdom.

Josh- this is so true! I mean seriously! There are seasons for everything under the sun... seasons to smell daisys and seasons to be a grown up in the kingdom and fight the battle. I may not say it enough- but I am greatful that I have gotten to lock arms with you in this calling over the years :-) Good word!
